From LKG to XII, MPS, Mysore, provides a unique training to students, thus spelling out the three Cs of competence, confidence and commitment.
It was a news item in a daily, titled ‘Mysore Public School
gets a national award for science education promotion’ that prompted me
to pay a visit to Mysore Public School (MPS). The trip was certainly
worth it.
The school is housed in a historical estate
previously owned by the Mysore Royalty. At a distance of 9 kms from
Mysore Railway station, this spectacular splendour of oriental
architecture would at first seem a pretty prestigious construction than
a homely boarding school.
On stepping into the Mysore Public School,
one gets fascinated by the calm natural beauty that distinguishes it
from any normal school. A sprightly atmosphere surrounds the campus
with a royal richness in every nook.
The
MPS was founded in 1998 by Mr Abdul Salam, a courageous entrepreneur
who has been supporting numerous humanitarian and educational causes in
the service of society. The school is owned and managed by the AR
Education Trust, a trust with its motto, ‘light to enlighten’.
From LKG to the XII standard, this school provides a unique kind of
training to the students significantly spelling the three C’s,
competence, confidence and commitment. The school has its mission to
teach the children to take pride in themselves as global citizens in an
ambience of Indian tradition and culture. The words of Mr M
Ramachandran, the principal of MPS underlines it, “We give equal
importance to the emotional and spiritual quotient along with
excellence in academic and co-curricular activities”.
MPS encourages co-curricular activities such as drama, debate,
elocution, craft, music etc. It has a long list of remarkable
achievements of the students at National as well as international
levels.
Participation in ‘Quanta 2003’, the only international science competition for school children in India
is a prominent achievement of the school. A team of seven students from
the school made their presence felt in the event, in which students
from 32 countries participated. Frank Antony Memorial all India
debate competition conducted by CISE, Academic Aptitude and Achievement
Test by IPEM, National Talent search examination by NCERT are just
samples of the several prestigious events where the MPS students came
out in flying colours. The drama club of MPS bagged the first prize in
the Inter School drama competition conducted by Inner wheel of Rotary Mysore on ‘Children’s Day’.
Another innovative concept, ‘the Brain Gymnasium’ has been adopted by
the school. This imaginary gym trains the students to stimulate their
brains through prescribed mental and physical exercises.
“The school has adopted ‘Vision 2020’proposed by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, as
its vision too”, says the principal. Realising the immense potentials
of fields like biotechnology the school has already introduced the
course at school level.
Lack of due care and individual attention is a fear factor for parents
in sending their children to boarding schools. With a teacher-student
ratio of 1:16, MPS has tackled the problem. This is besides the
counselors and career guidance consultants who are at the service of
the students on a full time basis.
A wealthy library, classroom libraries and a unique 10 bedded hospital
inside the campus helps every student to get due care in a homely
atmosphere. Sports and games, adventure sports, art education, music
and dance, computer education.
The distinct features of training at MPS lie innumerous. No wonder,
even a casual visitor, on stepping out of the school ‘feel good’ about
the very experience of the visit.
